Ultimate Spider-Man #2 - Growing Pains

https://mega.co.nz/#!WhkVCTCT!HLXeczXGBPJm4zRqgHyFQGqaaFCRlr-NiTKjQZY7Xns

" GROWING PLACE "

Peter Parker is back in school. Wondering what the hell is happening to him, he realises that he suddenly has bigger muscles, and some enhanced athletic ability. In gym class, he throws a basketball into the face of Flash Thompson when Peter sees him hitting on Mary Jane.

Outside, Flash doesn’t take too kindly to this and starts a fight with Peter. Parker dodges each blow with ease until he eventually catches Flash’s punch and breaks his hand. Threatening to sue unless the Parkers pay the hospital bill, May and Ben come down hard on Peter, who sneaks out of the house that night to an abandoned warehouse.

He soon realises his strength has grown beyond his wildest dreams, and he can easily support the weight of a car. He finds his acrobatic ability has improved too, and he can easily jump the height of a small building.

Norman Osborn, after hearing of Peter’s fight with Flash, tells his son Harry to invite Peter back to the lab, so he can once again apologise for the spider incident. Distracting Peter with other subjects in the OZ project, scientists distract him while another takes a blood sample. Furious, Peter storms out and disappears.

After some analysis, it turns out Peter isn’t dying after all, and that the effects of the spider’s bite have altered his metabolism to that of an Olympic athlete. Norman Osborn decides the time has come to test the OZ project on a human.

The Amazing Spider-Man #157 "The Ghost That Haunted Octopus!" #158 "Hammerhead is Out!" #159 "Arm-in-Arm-in-Arm-in-Arm-in-Arm-in-Arm with Doctor Octopus" Arc: "The Ghost That Haunted Octopus!"

"EL FANTASMA QUE ACOSABA A OCTOPUS"

Spider-Man once more goes diving into the Hudson River to try and recover his failed Spider-Mobile. However, while swimming around the crash site, Spider-Man is shocked to find that somebody else has removed it from the bottom of the river. After fighting off some cops who spot him, Spider-Man returns home. Later, when Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn arrive at class, Flash is shocked that Liz Allen has begun to take towards Harry.

While at Aunt May's apartment, May has bought Dr. Octopus a new set of clothes and he cleans himself up. Peter arrives to share a chicken dinner with Aunt May and is shocked to find his old foe there, but plays it cool. Octopus explains to them how he narrowly survived the explosion of the nuclear reactor in Canada, however explains that since then he's been haunted by the supposed ghost of Hammerhead.

Just as Octopus finishes explaining this, they are visited by the spectral form of Hammerhead, who has once more come to haunt Dr. Octopus. This causes Aunt May to faint, and the frightened Dr. Octopus flees with Aunt May in his arms, with the ghost form of Hammerhead not far behind. Peter changes into Spider-Man and goes after them himself. However, Dr. Octopus manages to get the best of Spider-Man when he over powers him and tosses him to a crowd of people below who all want to cash in on the reward the Bugle has put out for Spider-Man's capture.

Spider-Man manages to get away from the mob and catches up to Dr. Octopus just as he steals a helicopter from the Pan Am building and tries to make his getaway. Spider-Man tries to hitch a ride on the copter, however, Dr. Octopus cuts the web-line, causing Spider-Man to plummet to his apparent doom.

This story is continued next issue....

"HAMMERHEAD VUELVE"

Continued from last issue... Falling to his doom, Spider-Man escapes this fate by creating a web-hang glider, even though he makes a rough landing. Fixing up his Spider-Man costume at his apartment, Peter is stuck dealing with Glory Grant who pops by for a visit, and Mary Jane who rushes over to Peter's apartment when she learns of the damage and sudden disappearance of Aunt May. Peter plays dumb, hoping for some way to get out of there so he can resume his search for Aunt May as Spider-Man. He gets just what he wishes for when Joe Robertson calls him and asks him to come to the Bugle. There, Peter is only asked to check out the spectacle of Jameson's latest replacement secretary since Betty Brant went on her honeymoon with Ned Leeds. When word about Dr. Octopus kidnapping an old woman and taking control of Brooklyn Labs gets out, Peter rushes out there as Spider-Man.

There, Dr. Octopus is building a device he hopes will destroy the ghost of Hammerhead which has been haunting him since Hammerhead's supposed death. However, he is delayed by not only the arrival of the Hammerhead ghost (who starts terrorizing both May and Octopus), but the arrival of Spider-Man.

However, Spider-Man's intervention allows for Hammerhead's spirit floating into the path of the device. Octopus actives the control hoping to be rid of his tormentor forever, however something entirely unexpected happens: Hammerhead is restored back to a physical body.

This story is continued next issue....

"HOMBRO CON HOMBRO HOMBRO CON HOMBRO HOMBRO CON HOMBRO CON EL DR. OCTOPUS"

Continued from last issue... Believing that he had been haunted by the ghost of Hammerhead, Dr. Octopus had built a machine to try and destroy his haunter. However, in reality, Hammerhead has existed in a different dimensional plane of reality, and in using the device on him has freed him and brought him back to the real world. This leads to a three way fight between Spider-Man, Dr. Octopus and Hammerhead.

When a SWAT team arrives to take back the lab which Dr. Octopus took over in order to try and destroy Hammerhead, their involvement makes things worse. Hammerhead uses the extra distraction to take Aunt May at gunpoint and escape. Dr. Octopus then convinces Spider-Man to put aside their differences temporarily to save May; Spider-Man reluctantly agrees.

Elsewhere, the Tinkerer has recovered Spider-Man's Spider-Mobile and is repairing and modifying it to be a instrument of revenge to use against the wall-crawler. Meanwhile, Spider-Man is led by Dr. Octopus to Hammerhead's hideout. (This is witnessed by J. Jonah Jameson, who is dealing with another replacement secretary.)

The two unlikely companions arrive at Hammerhead's lair and fight off the mobster's men, and rescue Aunt May. When Hammerhead tries to escape in his helicopter, Dr. Octopus tosses garbage cans at it causing it to crash. Convinced that Hammerhead is finally dead, Dr. Octopus demands that Spider-Man hand over Aunt May. However, Dr. Octopus flees from the scene when he hears what he wrongly believes are police sirens. Upon realizing that the sirens are coming from fire-fighting vehicles, Spider-Man leaves May there for them to find before leaving the scene.

SPIDERMAN DEL 1 AL 700 (#54)

¡ LOS TENTÁCULOS Y LA TRAMPA !

Back in Manhattan, Spidey has scoured the whole city unsuccessfully searching for Octopus. “Wherever he is, I guess he’s safe for now,” he says. (Heh. Yes, but is May safe?) He returns to his apartment (where "Harry must be out on a date!") and decides to call Aunt May. The phone rings, just as Ock is paying May the "first month's rent in advance." ("That should keep her out of my hair until my plans are complete," he thinks.) As May talks to Peter, Otto climbs the stairs, finds his room, puts his suitcase on his bed and opens it. His metal arms come writhing out, holding his communicating equipment. (Not sure how the arms and their harness and the communicating equipment all fit in that little suitcase, though.) "Now that Spider-Man is dead (Did I mention that Ock thinks his bomb killed Spidey last issue?) and I’ve found a far better hideout than I expected, I can again make plans to steal the priceless nullifier," he states, "Luckily all of my men were not captured when my career as the Master Planner was cut short by the accursed Spider-Man!" He uses his equipment to contact his flunky (who has apparently been waiting at his station for a call for the last twenty issues) and declares, "Your wait is over! Soon we shall strike again!" Meanwhile, Ock's equipment is wreaking havoc on Aunt May's TV reception. "I wonder if Dr. Octopus could fix it for me?" she says, "He seems so very capable!"

The following morning, in the Manhattan "pad," Harry Osborn (tying his bow tie) calls into Pete's room to see if he wants any breakfast. Pete has left his door open and has been busy mixing up web-fluid with his Spidey suit hanging in plain sight on his closet door. Calling out, "Just a second, Harry! Be right with you!" PP closes his door and loads the web fluid into his extra cartridges on his belt. When he opens up again, Harry has turned sullen. "I can't wait for you to lock everything up tight as a drum before you'll talk to me," he says, "If you're afraid I'll steal something, just move out!" And he goes off to visit his father. (Actually, Harry has a good point here. How would you like it if your roommate locked his bedroom door and wouldn’t let you even look at his stuff?)

Following a strange sketchy panel that doesn’t look like Johnny drew it, Peter tells May "I've some studying to do" and leaves the house. He hangs out, watching from across the street until dark. (In a nice moody panel showing Peter from behind as he lurks under a tree; his head and shoulders covered in shadow.) He changes to Spider-Man but still hesitates to attack "because of Aunt May." Still, when a delivery is made to the house for Ock ("Must be equipment for some new crime!"), Pete knows he must act. (This is another nice panel with Spidey’s head in profile in the foreground and the entrance to the house in the distance, with light spilling out of the house, throwing the deliveryman and Ock into shadow.)

SPIDERMAN DEL 1 AL 700 (#53)

LLEGA: DR. OCTOPUS

Spidey perches on a clock tower, trying to cool down. He gets so preoccupied that he forgets where he is and the "Bong!" of the clock's bell surprises him so much, he topples right off. It is a simple matter to shoot a web to stop his fall but the striking of the clock also reminds him that he is "due in class soon.” "Lucky I'm carrying my civvies in my web-sling,” he says, and he swiftly makes his way to Empire State University.

As he web-slings on campus, Spidey spots Flash Thompson and Gwen Stacy. (Even though they are very tiny in the panel, you can tell who they are because Flash is in his blue Army uniform and is pointing up at Spidey while Gwen is in the green dress and chartreuse hat she wears in the rest of the scene. I think you can credit the anonymous colorist for their recognizability.) They spot Spidey, too. Flash tells Gwen that he is the webhead's biggest fan. She asks him how he knows Spidey isn't someone he'd dislike under that mask. "Not a chance, doll-face," he says. Just then, Harry Osborn walks up. He asks Flash and Gwen if they've seen Peter. "I'm sick of being his social secretary. All I do is take messages for him because he's never around!" Flash says, "He'll never change! Once an itch, always an itch! Right, Gwen?" and Gwendy cryptically replies, "Don't ask me, gents. I'd rather itch than switch!" (Everybody recognize the inspiration of Gwen's statement to be the Tareyton cigarette slogan, "Us Tareyton smokers would rather fight than switch?" Everyone know there used to be cigarette advertising on TV?)

Meanwhile, Spidey has lifted a section of the gymnasium roof so he can sneak in and change into his civvies. (What the heck is that roof made out of, anyway? And why is it so easy to lift out a panel to sneak in?) He is just putting his shirt on over his costume (while standing on a walkway high off the gym floor) when he hears footsteps. Quickly, he manages to change clothes and leaps to a climbing rope that is attached to the ceiling. (I know, I know, this is all pretty convenient. Just roll with it.) He doesn't realize that his Spidey mask is sticking out of the back of his pants. As he scoots down, Professor Warren pokes his head into the gym. Now down on the floor, Peter tells the Prof that he was "just taking a little workout." Warren is impressed. "I never realized you were so agile, son!" Then, noticing Pete's exposed Spidey mask, he says, "Better tuck in your undershirt, though." Peter nervously complies, thinking, "Lucky he's so near-sighted. He didn't see the web pattern." (Aren’t those glasses he’s wearing supposed to compensate for his near-sightedness?) Before leaving, the Professor tells Pete he has two "extra tickets to tonight's science exposition." He invites Peter and a friend to join him.

Out in the hallways, Pete meets up with Gwen. ("Say!" she says, "Aren't you the one who picked a peck of pickled peppers?" I think it is lines like this that made some people very happy to see Gwen go.)

The Amazing Spider-Man #3 "SPIDERMAN versus Doctor Octopus, the Strangest Foe of All Time..."

https://mega.co.nz/#!LllGiIJK!imnwfEtd-cwKBV7vIPRRuHyBUpRjiUuCysAmehBjhOY

SPIDERMAN VS DR. OCTOPUS

Spider-Man catches Charlie and his two pals robbing a warehouse. Surprising them with his Spider Signal light, he quickly overcomes them and webs them up for the police. Meanwhile, atomic scientist Otto Octavius, known to his colleagues as Doctor Octopus because of the unique set of four remote-controlled "arms" he invented for handling radioactive material, is hard at work at the U.S. Atomic Research Center. Suddenly his experiment goes awry. In the ensuing explosion, Otto Octavius's mechanical arms fuse to his body, and the excess radiation alters his brain. When he awakens at Bliss Private Hospital, he discovers that he can make his mechanical arms move by thought alone, just as if they were his real arms. With his brain unbalanced, Dr. Octopus forcibly takes over the hospital as his first criminal act.

J. Jonah Jameson learns of the strange events at the hospital, and sends Peter Parker to take some photographs. Peter sneaks into the hospital as Spider-Man, and discovers the hospital staff held captive by Dr. Octopus. Spider-Man is badly beaten in their battle, but Dr. Octopus's captives manage to escape.

Dr. Octopus returns to the U.S. Atomic Research Center and takes over its computer, and soon gains possession of the greatest source of atomic power in the nation. Meanwhile, Peter Parker is dispirited following his defeat. The government asks the Fantastic Four to retake the laboratory from Dr. Octopus, but they decline because of other commitments. The Human Torch, unable to use his flame because of a viral illness, nevertheless appears at Midtown High School to address the student body. The speech he gives is so inspiring that Peter Parker regains his self-confidence. He decides he can defeat Dr. Octopus after all.

Spider-Man soon enters the laboratory, where he builds two devices from chemicals and wire. When Dr. Octopus finds him, Spider-Man tosses one of the devices around two of the criminal's mechanical arms, melting them together. Then he squirts web fluid all over Dr. Octopus's glasses. Temporarily blinded with two of his arms stuck together, Dr. Octopus is easily knocked out and left helpless for the police. When Spider-Man later thanks the Human Torch for his inspiring speech, the Human Torch, cured of his illness, is perplexed.

The next day, The Human Torch gives the Midtown High School students another demonstration of his newly restored powers.
