In the previous issue, Spider-Man seemingly killed John Jameson when John fell off the Brooklyn Bridge. As a consequence, J. Jonah Jameson is printing an editorial about how Spider-Man's a murderer. As he storms through his office, yelling at everyone, Robbie Robertson mentions that the Egyptian Delegation is flying to New York for the King Tut exhibitionn. He asks if it's okay if Peter Parker takes the photos, since he's low on the money, but Jonah yells that Peter Parker should be fired, since there's some connection between him and Spider-Man.

Peter calls up Mary Jane, since they haven't spoken for a while, and offers to go on a date with her. Mary Jane agrees, and thanks to Robbie, Peter manages to get tickets to the King Tut exhibition for the next day. Peter then changes to Spider-Man, and goes swinging. Although he feels happy, he's still worried, since J. Jonah Jameson thinks that he murdered John Jameson. Whilst wondering what happened to John when he seemingly vanished, Spider-Man notices a speeding car, and stops it. However, all the people who see this are scared of Spider-Man, as they believe J. Jonah Jameson's editorial about Spider-Man being a murderer.

Meanwhile, J. Jonah Jameson, in a twist of irony, goes to Spencer Smythe to ask him to build a new Spider-Slayer, not realising that Smythe was the one who sent the Man-Wolf to kill him in the previous issue. Smythe agrees to build a new Spider-Slayer, but is secretly planning his own agenda.

In anger at Jameson, Spider-Man heads to D.A. Tower, asking him for advice for what to do about Jameson. Tower points out that Spider-Man could sue Jameson for defamation of character, as he's completely innocent, but to do that he'd have to reveal his identity. Spider-Man decides to leave, not knowing what to do.

By now, Smythe has finished building the Spider-Slayer, but has also worked out how to get revenge on Jameson. He manages to trick Jameson into putting on a handcuff which has a bomb attached to it, then explains to Jonah that he secretly hates him, since Jonah kept making him build more and more Spider-Slayers, which needed radioactive materials to work. Over time, the radiation poisoned him, until he was dying, and so before he dies, he wants revenge on both Jameson and Spider-Man.

Spider-Man decides to go confront Jameson about his editorial, not knowing that he's been captured by Smythe. Along the way, he's attacked by Smythe's Spider-Slayer, which manages to tackle him to the ground. Although the Slayer is smashed by the fall, the fall succeeds in knocking Spider-Man out, so that Smythe can pick him up and take him to his lab. Upon Spider-Man waking up, he finds that he's been attached to the other link of the handcuff which Jonah was attached to, and that he has 24 hours until it explodes.

" 24 HORAS PARA EL JUICIO FINAL "

At the end of the previous issue, Spencer Smythe succeeded in tricking both Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson into putting a handcuff on each of their wrists, which is set to blow up in 24 hours. Smythe explains to Spider-Man and Jonah that if they try to remove the handcuffs, the bomb will explode, killing them instantly. Spider-Man then tries to force Smythe to tell them how to remove it, but Smythe refuses to, as he's dying of radiation poisoning from the Spider-Slayers which J. Jonah Jameson forced him to build to kill Spider-Man. Spider-Man realises that it's pointless to stay in Smythe's lab, and so he leaves with Jonah still attached to their handcuff.

Once they're outside of Smythe's lab, Jonah tries removing Spider-Man's mask, to see who he is, but Spider-Man manages to pull it back on before Jonah sees his face. Spider-Man then takes Jonah and himself to Curt Connors, assuming that Curt will be able to work out a way to remove their shackle. After analysing the bomb, Curt tells the duo that there's plastic explosive in the shackle, which is instantly explode if the pressure holding it down is changed, hence why they can't remove it. At that point, a group of policemen burst in, saying they saw Spider-Man drag someone into Connors' apartment. After a moment of explanation, the police study the handcuffs, whilst Jonah tries to convince them to arrest Spider-Man. The police say that they'll try to work out how to remove it, but Spider-Man doesn't want to sit around waiting, and so he leaves with Jonah.

Meanwhile, the minor villain the Fly has followed a member of the Egyptian delegate to his hotel. The Fly breaks into the hotel, and knocks out the man before taking his ticket to the King Tut exhibit (which Peter Parker is supposed to be photographing), saying that he'll make millions from it. At the same time, Betty Brant calls up Flash Thompson, and tells him to come to Peter Parker's graduation, since he's finally going to get his diploma, after missing a required gym class. She tries calling up Mary Jane to attend, but Mary Jane is supposed to be going on a date with Peter, and misses the call.

Spider-Man and J. Jonah Jameson are arguing as usual, when the Fly unexpectedly attacks them, saying he has a master plan, and doesn't want Spider-Man getting in the way. With Jonah hampering him, Spider-Man is unable to get in a good punch, and so the Fly succeeds in knocking him out. He then picks up Jonah and Spider-Man, and throws them to the street. Spider-Man reveals that he's only pretending to be knocked out, and manages to save them from death, but he hits the ground hard enough that he's knocked out for real. The Fly leaves, thinking that he's dead, and after he's gone, Jonah reaches to take off Spider-Man's mask, since there's nothing to stop him.

Whilst Spider-Man lies unconscious, his friends are waiting for him to get his diploma. Since he doesn't turn up (and couldn't even if he wanted to), they are forced to leave, disappointed that Peter didn't turn up. At the same time, Mary Jane gets sick of waiting for Peter, and so decides to give up on waiting for him, disappointed with Peter.

Spider-Man wakes up to find himself if Curt Connors apartment, and Jonah explains that he dragged him there, not knowing what else to do when they have so little time. Unfortunately, Curt says that he still can't work out what to do about their shackles, but Spider-Man decides to just go and force the answer out of Smythe. Jonah and Spider-Man make it to Smythe's lab with half an hour remaining until the bomb detonates, but they find that Smythe has already died by the time they arrive. A video recording of Smythe activates, saying that although he won't live long enough to see them die, he knows that there's no escape for them.

Spider-Man successfully guesses that there must be some sort of camera connected from the shackle to the lab, so that Smythe could see them die. He finds the power source for the camera, which also keeps it locked in place, but doesn't know how to deactivate it without blowing them up. Spider-Man manages to use a tank of liquid oxygen to freeze the controlling computer, which deactivates the shackles, giving Spider-Man just enough time to throw the bomb outside without harming anyone. Spider-Man then leaves, with Jonah feeling jealous, since Spider-Man saved them both, and he turned out to be much weaker than he thought he was.

The Amazing spider-Man #149 "Even If I Live, I Die!" #150 "Spider-Man... Or Spider-Clone?" Arc: "Original Clone Story"

Continued from last issue... The Jackal has revealed his identity to be that of Peter Parker's biology professor: Mile Warren. Knocking out Spider-Man, the Jackal takes him and Ned Leeds to his secret lab. There, when Spider-Man revives, the Jackal tells him the genesis of his revenge plot: How he secretly loved Gwen Stacy, and how when she died he was devastated and blamed Spider-Man for her death. When he had Serba clone Gwen's DNA, Serba came back to him when he realizes that he'd been tricked into cloning humans (Which Serba found unethical), Warren would then strangle him to death. 

His mind unhinging, he soon blamed the murder of Serba on the emergence of another personality, which he dubbed the Jackal. Creating his costume, the Jackal would then clone Gwen Stacy and recondition her to have the same memories as the original Gwen in the hopes of using her against Spider-Man. 

When Spider-Man tries to attack the Jackal again, the Jackal manages to get away. While at the Daily Bugle, Betty Brant is upset because Ned and Peter have been missing for two days. As Mary Jane, J. Jonah Jameson, and Joe Robertson try to comfort her, Peter suddenly enters the room and claims he has no knowledge of seeing Ned, and claims he hasn't seen him in a week. But what's this? At the EXACT same time, Peter is in his Spider-Man identity, web-slinging over to Shea Stadium to meet the Jackal for their final battle!

There the Jackal drugs Spider-Man, and when he revives he finds that the Jackal has created a Spider-Man clone for him to fight. To make matters worse, the Jackal has Ned Leeds tied to a bomb primed to go off in a matter of minutes. The clone of Gwen is mortified that the Jackal would resort to murder. Gwen's words strike a chord in Warren who realizes that there was no Jackal, only Miles Warren, and only he could have killed people. Snapping out of his dementia, Warren tries to redeem himself by freeing Ned Leeds. However, he doesn't get clear of the bomb in time, and it goes off seemingly killing him. The explosion causes part of the stadium to collapse on the Spider-Clone as well, seemingly killing the clone of Spider-Man. 

Later, Peter Parker and the Gwen Stacy clone pay their respects to the real Gwen's grave. There, the clone of Gwen tells Peter that she realizes that she could never know him like the original has, and decides that it's best that she leave and never return. Peter returns to his apartment, sullen and hurt, but is shocked to find that someone is in his apartment. Rushing up to see who it is, he's happy to see that it's Mary Jane. He lets himself in, and the two begin to make up for their past fight.

" ¿ SPIDERMAN O SPIDERCLON ? "

Following his final battle against the Jackal and his Spider-Clone, Peter Parker is not sure if he's the original Peter Parker, or just the clone with the memories of the original. He decides that he needs help in a big way, and so he changes into Spider-Man and web-slings out to the lab of Curt Connors. There he tells Connors of his plight, and Connors agrees to run a series of tests to determine if Spider-Man is the real deal or a clone. As this test is going on, both men are unaware that Spider-Man is once more being targeted by Spencer Smythe who is once more trying to get revenge against the wall-crawler. 

With all the tests done, Connors needs time to go over the results and asks Spider-Man to relax in his waiting room. Spider-Man nods off, however he is awoken when he hears someone shouting at him from outside. Looking out the window he sees the Vulture outside, who is challenging him to a duel. 

After a brief fight, Spider-Man bests the Vulture and he is suddenly vanishes in a puff of smoke. Spider-Man is similarly attacked by both the Sandman and the Kingpin, who meet the same fates when Spider-Man defeats them. It all makes sense when Spencer Smythe appears in his Spider-Slayer robot, telling the wall-crawler they were all robot duplicates of his foes. 

During their fight, the Spider-Slayer grabs hold of Spider-Man, who is about to give up because he has his doubts about being the original Peter Parker. However, when his thoughts turn towards his feelings for Mary Jane, Spider-Man realizes that he has to be the original because emotions are only learned from outside stimuli, an while a clone may have his memories it wouldn't have the emotional attachment to them. Convinced that he's the real Spider-Man, Spidey breaks free and smashes Smyth's Spider-Slayer. He then "thanks" Smythe for helping him through his ordeal with a knock-out punch. 

Spider-Man returns to Connors lab where he finds Connors fast asleep at his desk with the test results in an envelope. Spider-Man takes them and sends the report to the four winds, feeling that he doesn't need to see the results because he feels he knows the true answer after tonight battle.

AMAZING SPIDERMAN DEL 1 AL 700 (# 105, 106, 107) "SPIDER-SLAYER"

Having returned home from the Savage Land, Peter decides to go web-slinging across the city. He happens upon a protest being organized by Randy Robertson against the Daily Bugle and it's lack of reporting about the "ordinary man". This gains the ire of J. Jonah Jameson, who's paper has spoke out for Civil Rights for years. His quick temper almost incites a riot, and Jameson has to be pulled out of there Spider-Man. The ungrateful Jameson tries to take a swing at the wall-crawler, so Spidey leaves him hanging from a post for his troubles. 

Peter returns back to his apartment and changes back to Peter Parker to prepare for the arrival of his roommate Harry Osborn, who is back out from the hospital following his drug overdose. While at the party, Flash Thompson (Back from another tour of duty in 'Nam) has shown up for the party. Peter buries the hatchet again, and when Gwen and Flash catch up, Mary Jane tries to flirt with Peter, who is about to scold her when Harry arrives. 

That night, J. Jonah Jameson visits Spencer Smyth, who has created a brand new Spider-Slayer robot for Jameson to use against Spider-Man. Showing off the arachnid themed Spider-Slayer's abilities, Jameson takes it out for a test run in the city. Jameson finds Spider-Man and attacks him with the Spider-Slayer. Unaware that Smyth also has control of the robot and is subtly piloting it to land it's battle with Spider-Man into an electronics laboratory. There, Smyth takes full control of the robot (unknown to Jameson, who believes it broken and smashes his control) and uses it to steal a special device which would render security cameras inoperable and also allows him to monitor the recordings of any camera in the city, Smyth intends to use it to further his own wealth through illegal means. 

Recovering from the attack, Spider-Man heads back to his apartment, unknown that Smythe is using the device to track Spider-Man's movements. Changing back into Peter Parker on a rooftop, Spidey inadvertently reveals his secret identity to Smythe.

Continued from last issue... Spider-Man notices a security camera recording him changing back into Peter Parker and webs it up, however he is too late as Spencer Smythe (who had taken control of the camera) had already taken a picture of Spider-Man's real face. Deciding to err on the side of caution, Spider-Man pays a visit to Curt Connors and uses his lab to create a synthetic mask based on his own face to try and reverse any potential compromise the camera has caused his secret identity. 

As news about the theft of the control device to the police's security cameras gets out to the Bugle, Smythe invites various underworld types to try to get them to buy his services. He reveals to them that thanks to his brilliance he has learned the secret identity of Spider-Man. However, when he trains the camera on Spider-Man again, the wall-crawler is ready with his synthetic Parker mask, and takes it off in front of the camera, which discredits Smythe. However, Smythe offers to make it up by attacking Spider-Man in his new Spider-Slayer model, which is piloted by himself. 

Meanwhile, Spider-Man spots another protest happening in front of the police station, the people there are protesting the privacy invasion caused by the polices cameras. Surprisingly enough, J. Jonah Jameson is in the crowd lending his support. Spider-Man pops in and tells them that he agrees with them before slinging off and returning to his civilian identity. 

He briefly checks in on Harry when Mary Jane and other revelers come with pizza. When Mary Jane asks Peter he's in he tells her that he's got a date with Gwen. When Peter meets up with Gwen, he learns that they aren't going out on a date so much as checking in on Flash Thompson, who Gwen is worried about since he's come back from Vietnam. When Flash Thompson loses his temper over their concern, the couple decides to leave him be and go out for a romantic evening together. 

After his date with Gwen is over, Peter changes into Spider-Man, when he detects that he's being monitored by the security cameras, he soon finds out who's been watching when he's attacked by Smythe in his new Spider-Slayer robot.

SPIDEY CONTRAATACA

Continued from last issue... Spider-Man has finally been caught by Spencer Smythe in his new Spider-Slayer robot. Smythe gloats, that now after all the defeats at the wall-crawler's hands he'll finally get his revenge against Spider-Man. He takes the defeated wall crawler back to the assemblage of crooks at his hide out to show off his victory.

Meanwhile, Gwen meets with Randy Robertson who is in a good mood after the Daily Bugle does a report of the protest against the police surveillance cameras. She is later confronted by Flash who apologizes for how he acted. When he tries to express his feelings for her she stops him and tells him that her feelings for Peter are real. She then confronts him with the fact that that is not the only thing bothering him, Flash declines to talk about it.

Back at Smythe's laboratory, Spider-Man breaks free of the Spider-Slayer's bindings and and gums up the Spider-Slayer robot. He then escapes Smythe's lab and rounds up all the crooks in his employ who have been sent out on various jobs throughout the city. After which Smythe comes after Spider-Man in the Spider-Slayer robot. However, the wall-crawler makes short work of Smythe's robot and leaves him for the police to collect.

Spider-Man then pays a visit to J. Jonah Jameson, fed up with Jameson constantly hiring Smythe to go after him with Spider-Slayer robots, Spider-Man cautions the newspaper editor to never try it again, a request the cowardly Jameson agrees to comply to in the future. On his way back home to switch back to his civilian identity, Spider-Man spots Gwen walking with Flash. He spots two military men pull up in a vehicle and escort Flash away, leaving Gwen in tears.

Spider-Man wonders if this spectacle will change things between him and Gwen.

Continued from last issue.. Having defeated Spider-Man in battle, Ka-Zar takes Spider-Man to the roof tops to learn the truth about why Jameson hired him to capture the wall-crawler. When Spider-Man revives, he finds that his memory has been restored, and so he tells the whole story. Ka-Zar believes Spider-Man but soon departs when Zabu is threatened by police officers in the area, Spider-Man slinks away during this altercation between the police and Ka-Zar. Meanwhile, Spencer Smythe has contacted J. Jonah Jameson because he has created a new Spider-Slayer robot for Jameson to use in his quest to capture Spider-Man. They send the robot out, which tracks Spider-Man down to his apartment where he is about to change back into Peter Parker. When he notices the robot, he battles it across the city. When Jameson proves unable to capture Spider-Man, Smythe takes control and sends the robot after Spider-Man determined to kill the wall-crawler. This is more than what Jameson wanted, and calls Smythe on the fact that he intends to kill Spider-Man for his own revenge, instead of turning him over to the police. However, Spider-Man manages to defeat the robot by luring it to a spider exhibit where it's spider-detecting device overloads and causes the robot to explode. With yet another failure with one of his Spider-Slayer robots, Smythe is thrown out of Jameson's office. Spider-Man returns to his apartment where he changes back to Peter Parker, on his way out to find out what happened to Aunt May in his absence. On his way out the door he bumps into Ka-Zar and Zabu, Ka-Zar tells the young man not to be afraid that they are only on an evening stroll.

La Amenaza del Hombre Fundido

Como el año escolar llega a su fin, Peter Parker quiere conseguir a Liz Allan, pero también, Flash Thompson sin ninguna explicación. El día de graduación es muy pronto, por lo que Peter se deja fuera de la escuela temprano y le hace una visita a Spencer Smythe, creador de un robot. A pesar de que el robot agarra a Peter, él habla de su salida de ella y rápidamente se cambia de traje a Spider-Man para conseguir su verdadero regreso. Justo cuando termina, se da cuenta de una conmoción entre Smythe y Marcos Raxton más de una aleación de metal líquido. Raxton tiene la intención de venderlo y Smythe se defiende diciendo más pruebas que había que hacer. Como Peter va a ayudar, el robot agarra a él y él mira como Smythe es derribado y el frasco de la aleación de metal líquido se derrama sobre Raxton. Raxton se encuentra en un hospital y, perdido en sus pensamientos, es casi atropellado por un coche. Cuando se arremete, se da cuenta de su fuerza y decide sobre una vida de crimen. Spider-Man se enfrenta a Raxton y comienza a luchar, teniendo muy duros golpes debido al nuevo órgano de metal de Raxton. Spider-Man pone las luces apagadas, y en los lazos oscuros hasta Raxton manos y los pies con cinta super-gruesa y le deja a la policía. Peter Parker asiste a su graduación y, lamentablemente, J. Jonah Jameson es el orador invitado. Después de un discurso aburrido, Peter decide ponerse al día con Liz Allan Jameson como mantequillas hasta la tía May a retener habilidades fotográficas de Parker. Liz confiesa sus sentimientos a Peter y le dice que ella sentía que era visto como una rubia boba y que nunca tuvo una oportunidad con Betty y Mary Jane alrededor. Liz dice que es hora de que parte de su poder graduarse y dejar atrás y se va antes de Peter puede decir una cosa.

Cuando Peter Parker va a vender las fotos de un crimen a J. Jonah Jameson, un inventor llamado Smythe llega con un robot que garantiza la destrucción de Spider-Man. Jameson se pone a escuchar el plan del inventor loco. Smythe muestra cómo su robot inmediatamente dispara tentáculos de acero cuando siente la presencia de una araña y coge una mano de Peter para su sorpresa. Jameson se da un mando a distancia y se comprometen a un acuerdo. Betty Brant está furiosa con Peter e intentar atrapar a Spider-Man, sin entender sus motivos verdaderos. Peter se va a la escuela y esta Flash Thompson esperandolo para tener una luchar contra él para ver qun se queda con Liz Allen. Cuando Peter sale de la escuela, ve el robot y empieza a correr. Flash, pensando que quiere huir de la pelea va detras de Pete. Pete se voltea y pelea contra el robot y trata de derrotar al robot, pero se resbala y intenta evita sus tentáculos de acero hasta que pueda tener un plan. Mientras tanto, el robot está atacando a Spider-Man y llegan hasta la casa de peter. Ambos se chocan contra una humilde Mary Jane Watson que está a la espera de Peter Parker para volver a casa. Aunque no se puede ver su rostro, Betty piensa que ella se ve tan bella como una estrella de cine. Mientras tanto en la lucha contra el robot, Spider-Man está atrapado por los tentáculos de acero y no puede escapar. Despues Smythe y Jameson salen corriendo para localizar al robot y desenmascarar a Spider-Man, pero Spidey deshace el cuadro de potencia por lo que cuando Jameson se acerca a desenmascararlo llega con las manos vacías. Peter regresa a su casa, feliz de que él vive otro día, pero está en problemas cuando la tía May ha descubierto su ropa de Spider-Man y exige una explicación. El acepta, pero ahora Peter Parker no tiene traje de Spider-Man.
