The Sandman #4 - Master of Dreams, Part 4 : A Hope in Hell

" A HOPE IN HELL "

The first appearance of Lucifer Morningstar! This issue follows Dream of the Endless as he journeys to recover his helm, which was said to be traded to a demon, and where else would a demon be than in Hell? Dream finds many things in Hell have changed, and is led by The Demon (Etrigan) to Lucifer's palace where he discovers Hell is now ruled by a Triumvirate.

Finally, the three Lords of Hell summon all the demons to a single location where Dream uses his sands to locate the one who has his helm, the two "duel" for it, and Dream is victorious, leaving Hell unstopped, but leaving behind a severely upset Lucifer who swears vengeance.

John Constantine (HELLBLAZER) guest-stars and helps Morpheus track a pouch of powerful sand that’s found its way into the possession of a drug addict. But what horrific metamorphosis has the sand caused the woman?

First item on the list, his pouch of sand, Dream goes to London where a man named John Constantine resides, the Furies told him that he was the last one to purchase the pouch. So it is that John first encounters Dream of the Endless, and the two work together to locate the pouch, finding it in the possession of one of John's former lovers. She is but a pale shadow of her former self, withered and dying, and her house is overrun with beasts of the Dreaming, but Dream takes the pouch from her, and puts her into a final, peaceful sleep.

" THE HIGH COST OF LIVING "

Mad Hettie releases Death and Sexton from the locked room. Death buys a new Anhk from a street vendor with her last ten dollars. She gives two pennies and a Russian doll to Sexton. Death dies. The blind old man demands the two pennies from Sexton and places them on Death's eyes then leaves. Mad Hettie retrieves the Russian doll Sexton had left with a neighbor and removes her heart from inside.

" MASTER OF DREAMS, PT 2: IMPERFECT HOSTS "

Morpheus, King of Dreams, gets reacquainted with his home realm of The Dreaming and the colorful characters who populate it--including Cain, Abel and Lucien, the librarian. He also discovers how much his absence has affected the universe in the time since he was imprisoned.

Dream returns to his realm, The Dreaming, and finds it is in very bad shape after his seven decade long absence and worst of all, he doesn't have the power to restore it as he has lost his three power items: the ruby, the helm and the pouch of sand. He called upon the Furies to tell him their whereabouts and is given a clue to find each one, and so begins his journey to reassert himself as Dream of the Endless.

Death: The High Cost of Living #2 - A Night to Remember

" A NIGHT TO REMEMBER "

Death agrees to search for the insane woman's heart so Mad Hettie releases Sexton into Death's care. Death and Sexton go to a party where a punk kid sent by a blind old man to retrieve Death locates them. The punk kid brings Death and Sexton to a room occupied by the blind old man. The kid takes Death's Ankh from her and refuses the old man when he demands that he turn it over to him. The old man slams the kid's head against the wall, takes the Ankh, and locks the door to the room behind him. The punk dies as Death apologizes to Sexton for involving him in the situation.

Violent Cases (Casos Violentos)

CASOS VIOLENTOS

En las primeras páginas conocemos a un narrador, cuyo rostro es el del propio Gaiman, quien empieza a recordar su infancia en la ciudad de Portsmouth, en Inglaterra.

El protagonista cuenta como su padre lo llevó a un osteópata por una lesión que tenía en el brazo y conoció al hombre que solía ser el médico personal de Al Capone.

A partir de ese momento el relato se centra en el descubrimiento del mundo de los gángsters a través de los ojos de un niño.
